UNITED STATES COAST GUARD AUXILIARY

8th Eastern Region, Division 11 -  Serving Middle Tennessee

EIGHTH EASTERN REGION - DIVISION 11 SEAL

Division 08E11 Seal

DIVISION 11 SEAL SYMBOLISM

COLORS/OBJECTS:  All colors and objects inherent in this seal symbolizes heritage and traditional missions performed by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary - a premier, maritime organization with its devotion to duty in promoting boating safety. Blue alludes to the nautical waters and the challenge of the sea. The U.S.C.G. racing stripe and colors inside the state outline of Tennessee, represent our commitment and strengthening bond with other members of TEAM COAST GUARD.

WORDS:  The words "Semper Paratus" , is the motto of the U.S.C.G. and the Latin words meaning "always ready", states our own preparedness for any duty or mission called upon us to conduct that certainty never predicts.

STATE:  The State of Tennessee represents Division 11's area that our Auxiliary missions are centralized in and as the "volunteer state."  The state also symbolizes our Area of Responsibility (AOR) and the five flotillas united within Division 11.  The state outline depicts the heritage of Tennesseans but more importantly our Auxiliary spirit of volunteerism of promoting boating safety in America.

ANCHOR: The heraldic anchor within the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary emblem is a uniform symbol of every seagoing vessel worldwide. For Division 11, it represents our rigid point of support, stability and security made fast to the earth below.

CREATION HISTORY OF THE GREAT SEAL FOR DIVISION 11

A Division patch/seal committee was formed early in 2001 and included, John Whelan, Tom Murn and Scott Farr.  These individuals worked very hard to come up with a seal that would represent our Division and it's members.  Many designs, ideas and contributions came together while trying to decide on "the best design" that would serve our Division.  The Division even tossed around the idea of having a mascot with a fictional character to represent our AOR.  Unfortunately, a mascot could not be decided on and created efficiently.  Weeks later, the final Division Seal was created by Scott L. Farr with the final approving help of John Whelan, Tom Murn and a Division vote by participating board members.

You can download and save the Division seal to your hard drive for Official Auxiliary use ONLY.
